On 28th May, 2020, the Young Women Leaders Network in partnership with Mirio GH donated Sanitary Pads and other items to the less privileged girls in some selected communities in the Ayawaso East Constituency. This was done to mark to the celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD, MH Day in short) is an annual awareness day dated May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
The team went door to door from Brigade, an urban setting around the NADMO headquarters to Ruga Community and Nima distributing sanitary Pads, savings box, liquid soaps and hand sanitizers to the girls.

Ms Munira Yakubu, a nurse and one of the health educators of YWLN interacted the girls with one on one educating them on understanding menstruation and it’s hygiene.
She again thought them some key tips on how they should handle
themselves during Menstruation; the number of times they should change a pad, and they must wash their hands before and after changing.
The president of YWLN, Hajar Diko Osman mentions that, the team used to visit schools to mark this day with menstrual hygiene management education, and training of making their own reusable pads but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they add to result with the door to door activities.
“The savings box will enable them save money to be able to buy sanitary products when their period is due and this will help them cultivate a saving habits “ she added.

Mirio-Gh is an NGO aims at sponsoring brilliant but needy and the less privileged within rural areas in Ghana, so as to ensure that the youth are given the opportunity to have access to quality education. It is also aimed at educating the public about sexual abuse and counseling victims.
