🎯The Young Women Leaders Network (YWLN) team visited the A.M.E Zion and Al-Zakiya Islamic School at Salt pond in the Central Region, Ghana. This was to engage the young girls in the schools to know much about menstrual hygiene management, personal development and other related matters.
🎯 The moderator, Mss. Salma Lad in her opening address, said the engagement was part of the YWLN mandate aimed at educating, empowering and supporting young girls. She also spoke about YWLN to the girls and reasons why we at YWLN embark on such projects.
🎯Our first speaker, Mss. Fati White the vice president of YWLN, spoke to the girls about personal development. She entreated the young girls to be focused, confident and determined in life. She also touched on the need why there is a need for them to feel important. She again advised them not to be intimidated by anyone’s opinion in achieving their dreams. She concluded by encouraging the girls to do their best to achieve their aim.

🎯Our second speaker, Delly Alabireh, the P.R.O of YWLN touched on how to overcome low self-esteem, still under personal development. She stated few points one can embark on to overcome low self-esteem;
– Visualizing yourself as you want to be, just like seeing an image of yourself you’re always proud of.
– Do one thing that scares you every day, overcoming your fear is by facing it.
– Set yourself up to win always.
🎯 Our third speaker, Mss. Alimatu Sadia Amidu, a certified nurse and a volunteer for YWLN, spoke about menstrual hygiene management and its importance in life of every woman. She explained that, understanding menstrual hygiene enable girls and women to attain the fullest potential of life. Speaking to the girls, Mss. Alimatu, defined menstrual cycle as the first day of one’s current menstruation period to the first day of one’s next menstruation period.
Mss. Alimatu & Mss. Fati demonstrated to the girls on; before and after usage of sanitary pad/ reusable sanitary pad on a pant.
🎯 Our energizer for the day was well taken care of by the organizer of YWLN, Mss. Ayishetu Umar Sanda as she made all stand on their feet to spell ”COCONUT” with their hands with some movement.
🎯 Our technical director, Matthew Kelle equally did a great job, by making sure our message is being heard through social media (Facebook).
🎯 The training session started at exactly 1:00pm. The items needed to start the training were brought out to teach the young girls and their teachers how to do the reusable sanitary pad. They were all filled with joy and had fullfilment in what they were doing including the teachers.
🎯 The headmistress of the school couldn’t hide her joy and appreciation, as she urged us to keep doing what we’re doing, whiles she hope we return to visit them next time. Some of the girls the YWLN team interacted with, expressed their satisfaction about the engagement.
